Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and COP28 President-Designate, has urged world leaders to take collective climate action to transform, decarbonize, and safeguard economies.
Talking at the UAE Environment TECH meeting in Abu Dhabi, Dr. Al Jaber asked policymakers, pioneers, and modern pioneers to speed up the turn of events and organization of mechanical answers for decarbonize economies and decrease outflows by something like 43% by 2030 in accordance with the IPCC report.
He underlined the requirement for a mindful and practical energy change that stages out petroleum derivative emanations and staging up zero-carbon options.
Dr. Al Jaber expressed that perfect tech speculations broke the $1 trillion hindrance without precedent for 2022 and there is significant space for development, which he accepts addresses the best an open door for human and financial improvement starting from the principal modern upset.
He elaborated, saying, “I believe this transformation represents the greatest opportunity of human and economic development since the first industrial revolution, and I know we are moving in the right direction.”
Climate technologies have the potential to reduce annual carbon emissions by up to 25 billion tons and at least double their contribution to global growth with the right policies and investments. By utilizing environment innovations, we can fabricate another financial advancement model in view of stopping emanations, while reinvigorating monetary development,” he added.
Dr. Al Jaber likewise underlined the basic job of hydrogen and carbon catch innovations in empowering a mindful and commonsense energy progress, especially in weighty discharging businesses, where sustainable power sources alone are deficient.
“For solutions like hydrogen to have a real impact on the energy system, they need to be commercialized and scaled up. On the off chance that we are significant about controlling modern emanations, we want to quit fooling around with carbon catch advancements. Carbon capture technology will play a role in achieving net zero in any plausible scenario. The numbers just don’t add up without it,” he stated.
He also said that achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 is impossible without carbon capture technology.
He urged technology companies to focus on agriculture and food systems, which are the biggest single source of greenhouse gases, and to invest in digital technologies and vertical farming to increase crop yields in harsh environments while reducing energy and water consumption.
Dr. Al Jaber urged the oil and gas industry to implement comprehensive net zero plans by or before 2050 and eliminate all methane emissions by 2030.
In addition, he emphasized the necessity of collaboration between the largest industrial energy consumers, technology companies, the financial sector, the government, and civil society to accelerate a fair and equitable energy transition that does not disadvantage anyone.
He also mentioned that the public, multilateral, and private sectors must boost climate finance by increasing the availability, accessibility, and affordability of capital for countries that require it the most in order to maximize technology adoption in the Global South.
