According to France’s foreign minister, Iranian authorities are holding seven French citizens. In the meantime, the pro-Tehran Basij militia member’s death led to the indictment of 11 individuals by Iran’s judicial system. (Iran detained 2 more)
The French Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday that two additional French citizens are being held in Iran.
Seven French nationals are now being held in the country as a result of this.
According to an interview with the newspaper Le Parisien, Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna stated, “We have concerns over two other citizens, and the result of our latest checks is that they are being detained.”
Colonna stated, “If its (Iran’s) objective is to blackmail us, then this is the wrong way to deal with France.”

The French newspaper Le Figaro reported on Friday that two people had been detained prior to the beginning of the September protests. Without providing any additional details, a spokesperson for the ministry of foreign affairs confirmed the detention of two additional French citizens in Iran.
A number of Western nations imposed sanctions on Iran as a result of protests over the death of 22-year-old Jina Mahsa Amini while she was being held by the police and the subsequent crackdown. A new round of EU human rights sanctions will be approved at a meeting of foreign ministers on Monday, diplomats told Reuters. (Iran detained 2 more)
At the beginning of October, Paris made the claim that the Iranian government was holding French citizens hostage and engaging in “dictatorial practices.” After a video appeared to show a French couple confessing to spying, the accusation was made.
According to state media, eleven individuals have been charged with the murder of a Basij security force member during unrest in Iran.
According to Iran’s IRNA news agency, 10 men and 1 woman have been charged with “corruption on earth” for crimes that resulted in the death of a Basij member. The charge could result in the death penalty.
Volunteer militia supporting the government is the Basij. On November 3, the force member was killed in Karaj, a city in the Tehran metropolitan area.
