Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, stated that the UAE is committed to promoting a future marked by climate stability and environmental protection with only 100 days left until COP28. Its focus “remains on forging a climate and ecological future that is resilient, collaborating with all stakeholders to amplify the global goals of our conference.”
“The 100-day countdown to the events of the Conference of the Parties in the United Arab Emirates begins today. This is a second we have been anticipating, as it features the UAE’s endeavors in handling environmental change on both a public and worldwide scale,” she said.
“We see COP28 in the United Arab Emirates as a living testimony to our accomplishments and a hopeful glimpse into the future. It addresses a significant crossroads in our obligation to help humankind in standing up to quite possibly of its most significant test.”
The minister stated that the launch of initiatives by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in the lead-up to COP28 will advance various sector-specific environmental and climate goals.
“Upheld by our visionary administration, the UAE will have Cop28 furnished with a formative plan that stresses manageability and supports the UAE’s driving situation in this critical space,” she said.
To happen at Exhibition City in Dubai from November 30 to December 12, COP28 hopes to address an Earth-wide temperature boost according to a few alternate points of view and cutoff an unnatural weather change to 1.5 Celsius.
The UAE has raised its objective for decreasing outflows to 40% from 31%, flagging that all nations should present their updated vows in September.
The four pillars of the COP28 agenda—people, inclusivity, the energy transition, and climate finance—were announced in July by Sultan Al Jaber, the COP28 President Designate. Additionally, he urged the world to supply carbon-capture technology, increase battery storage, triple the capacity of renewable energy sources, and expand nuclear power.
To gather speed in front of COP28, four provincial environment weeks will be facilitated before very long, with one of them to be held in Saudi Arabia.
